General Discussion / upgrade to xfce 4.16
« on: July 27, 2021, 08:54:12 AM »
I've upgraded to XFCE 4.16 to get newer  versions of  xfce programs etc.
I used the ppa listed here ( only did the first steps.
After upgrade I had to replace  terminal  icon shortcut and thunar shortcut.
use start menu search and look up terminal and right click add to panel and they will update/work then remove old shortcuts and move the new ones into  place by  start menu.
after this no other issues thus far  all other apps added to panel work.
and you have a updated xfce 4.16 without xubuntu tweaks and messing with  SuperGamer looks.

ok; so  5.13 kernel works with the open-source Nvidia driver.
I was still able to play  via Lutris Rust via Geforcenow.
I'll test other games I have installed later.

I'm trying this sites guide to get the newer kernel on supergamer 6  .
thus far mainline upgrade tool has failed with 465 nvidia and 470 nvidia driver to work with that tool.
here is site link and i'll confirm it works before i'd say try it.
i'll add a reply stating if it works.

General Discussion / Re: When come Suprime Live DVD 8.5 GB?

While I can't answer all of this  for Darin as it's not my place.
I can try and help you with the usb tool creation use Ventoy.
after creating the  ventoy key just drag and drop iso's to the key.
works for me no more issues.
As far as games go you have steam and lutris to install right away.
Plus with Proton and protrontricks and winetricks you can play No mans sky online(if you have that game)multi player does not work until you use protontricks.
I mean we are never going to play Rust Survival game without  the game protecting/anti cheat  working but lots of games in those two platforms.
Plus proton brings in more.

Heroic Games Launcher epic games right in linux ,store+game launcher.

besides kodi(, Plex(, stremio( hypnotix(, mythtv( with tv capture /hardware)besides prime and netflix that handels media,tv,movies.

OBS ( making /editing your stream. g'mic( awesome addon for obs.

I hope this helps you in your Linux travels

Software Issues / xanmod/amd firmware issue
« on: March 03, 2020, 06:49:07 AM »
Ok so after an update and a purge of xanmod 5.4 my system will not boot  until I go into recovery and then hit resume normal startup.
this is new i even just got more updates but did  change option at load to  acpi off due to random reboots due to a firmware issue.
so just a heads up folks.
the screen loads greyed out supergamer like normal and then keyboard backlight etc goes off as well so no keyboard.

Software Issues / Xanmod kernel in SGv5
« on: February 11, 2020, 04:45:58 AM »
So I've been running stock Xanmod kernels now since v5 upgrade.
Now I've not changed the scheduler yet but will later to test things out.
So far kernel 5.5 in with no issues Nvidia driver 440.59 works  :)
I'm happy with the setup so far. and unlike my try at Liquorix kernel, I was not bitten.

Software Issues / nvidia+5.4.7 kernel working how to
« on: January 03, 2020, 05:47:56 PM »
Hi; ok  so i ran across the  nvidia forums and an answer from someone there  stating to a user that he was trying to use a kernel compiled  w gcc 9.0. this sent me on a path to this site:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf/gcc-9.0
sudo apt-get install gcc-9  was norberts answer

later answer was :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
sudo apt update
sudo apt install gcc-9 by ISanych

this was added later:
just as a reminder to people reading this sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/gcc gcc /usr/bin/gcc-9 60 --slave /usr/bin/g++ g++ /usr/bin/g++-9 JHBonarius
now this last line gives and error if you use top repo but does work gcc 9.0 is default .

I use ukuu(newer version pay for $10) to get the kernel, not an rc final.
now before this with nvidia 440.36  was a no dice and complained about firmware missing still working on that but my net works.
dkms would not install etc .

after adding the above and trying it later  it worked (today was tried and setup).

linux it never fails to  show how great the folks are that are willing to help.
