General Discussion / Re: Hi @all
« on: August 28, 2020, 03:57:04 AM »
I'm glad to hear that and thank you for the update. There will be an update to the base with a newer kernel and ZFS completely taken out. If you ever have issues please post into the forums and we can get to it as soon as we can. I work a lot of hours so it might be a few days to hear from me but I will respond and try to fix the issue.

Software Issues / Re: SG6 install - zfs
« on: July 13, 2020, 12:14:12 AM »
Here is the problem with the ZFS file system, the license is not open source and most distros do not or will not support it on any kernel version higher 5.5 series. Until some legal stuff gets worked out and Linus gives a go ahead to put it back into the kernel then it is out. The update to the SG6 with have it taken completely out and when it is good to go I will put it back in. I am not going to patch the kernel that will violate the the terms of it.

Software Issues / Re: SG6 install - zfs

I agree it is, this is based on Ubuntu 20.04 with the core of it and the installer being part of the core. The Ubiquity installer is the issue. I am moving away from it and towards a different installer in future releases and they might not even be based on Ubuntu. I found out that Ubuntu's patches mess up the Nvidia drivers and worked to fixed them until I just built my own kernel. I went round and round with the amdgpu open source driver until I found a fix for some of the onboard graphics. They rushed this release out and there are issues. I actually prefer the 16.04 release as it is polished but progress has to go forward, I just wished they put the same amount of time into it. I will do some testing to see if I find a simple fix but I am guessing that the mkfs program is the issue or gparted as I have not dived into the install scripts yet.

That is the Ubiquity installer that is standard on Ubuntu 20.04 base distros. I have plans on removing it completely and either finding a different installer or move on from Ubuntu as this release drove me crazy trying to fix things. ZFS is still experimental on Ubuntu no matter what they say.

Software Issues / Re: SG6 install - grub

I completely agree the Ubuntu installer is not the best but was easier than to rewrite an installer. I am ditching the Ubiquity Installer to move towards something more reliable and user friendly. I suggest looking into alternate methods to install on a different hard drive. If you installed via UEFI then this tool might help fix things and possible be able to install to any hard drive.

Release Announcements / SuperGamer V6 Release
« on: June 02, 2020, 08:27:24 AM »
I will be uploading a new release shortly. Here is the description of the changes......

I am proud to announce the release of the SuperGamer v6. This is using the new 20.04 base. I have included some Games as well as Game Manager Installers. This release is going forward with the 5.6.14 kernel built for Low Lattency and unpatched. Nvidia drivers work from the Installer on this Kernel. I also included some more wallpapers and fixed some of the Ryzen 3 onboard graphics issues.  This should work for both Legacy and UEFI but as always your mileage may vary with different motherboards and BIOS's.

General Discussion / Re: howto change brightness?
« on: April 26, 2020, 05:25:11 PM »
There are several tools but I need to know what version you are using first and if you are using a laptop or desktop. With a desktop you can just adjust your monitor without having to install anything but I will post a link that might help you. You can try the power manager in settings to see if that helps.

Software Issues / Re: Hash Keys Do Not Match
« on: April 06, 2020, 09:55:46 AM »
Redownload the iso please as the iso was built and the md5sum and sha256 files were created at the same time and they do match to what was uploaded. Do not install anything that does not match as that is a real possibility that it was tampered with or corrupted from the download.

Release Announcements / SuperGamer 6 BETA
« on: March 11, 2020, 07:00:24 PM »
This release is based on 20.04 daily and may be very buggy. I included the Snap Store and some 2d games to play live. This has to be said for some reason, you cannot install the game installers running live. Apt is not setup on the live account and the live scripts do not allow this to happen. There are a few differences between this Beta and the SuperGamer v5 release. Beside the obvious newer base there are a few tweaks to the menu with it being different. I also included newer amdgpu firmware drivers to help with amd gpus.

Release Announcements / SuperGamer 5 Release Notes
« on: January 12, 2020, 04:44:58 PM »
The SuperGamer v5 has arrived. It is based upon the 19.10 base, 64 bit ONLY, which has the 5.3 kernel and XFCE 4.14. I have included Installers for Steam, Lutris and PlayOnLinux as well as cleaned up the look and feel of it. Please DO NOT try to install the games running live as they will not install and they are ONLY to be installed after a Hard Drive install. Use the Live Boot to test your hardware. UEFI support is still hit and miss with the new grub but it does work in Live mode. I am aware of Ryzen 3 support and some motherboards not working. I am trying to figure out a fix as this is a Linux issue and others have issues. The firmware is corrupted on them for the Linux drivers. This is themed darker and the base does not have any games installed. This was done on purpose to give users a choice on how they want to customize their system. If a user want to install most of the games, they should use this, be warned, this will download almost 12GB's then have an installed size of around 20GB's, you need to run this out of a terminal:
Code: [Select]
pkexec apt install games*
